Who Says Students Don’t Need Credit Card?

Tags: , ,

2008-11-14Credit cards are considered a commodity in today’s society. In this modern day and age, carrying cash is not an “in thing” anymore. Carrying cash makes you very susceptible to crimes such as mugging and robbery. The culture of a cashless society has emerged to put up with the fast pace lives of people.

Purchasing products or availing services don’t necessarily require everyone to have ready cash in their pockets. If you’ll make an equation: credit card is equal to money. The so called “magic keys” can replace the value of cash in your everyday monetary transactions. Banks and other financial institutes offer this service to almost everyone to enjoy.

Majority who avail are working adults- those people who have the capacity to pay their obligations. Nonetheless, everyone is welcome to avail of this card. The good news is students can now have their very own. Way back then, some students have one but it’s just a supplementary from their parents.

It’s just appropriate for them to own a credit card in cases of emergencies. College students specifically have many expenses. Not just related to their academic but their day-to-day life. They usually go to a university away from their residence. Another thing, living in a boarding school is a difficult adjustment for them.

Parents wanted their children to be in good financial condition even without their guidance. Having a card will enable them to purchase their needs in case they run out of cash. The only risk is the usage. As students themselves, they can’t thoroughly understand the importance of the said card.

That’s why, they should completely understand how the tool works. It’s not just an ordinary card but an essential tool to survive in this world. Financial companies take a big risk of opening this service to them. Before approving the application form, a co-signor is an essential requirement- parents usually play the part.

Parents and the student must read the terms and conditions stipulated in the contract. A credit limit is usually assigned in order for the students to know the maximum amount they’ll be spending. A limit is intended in order for them to think twice on buying unnecessary items. The interest charged is much lower than the working adults’.

The responsibility of managing the expenses is now on their shoulders. They are the ones who’ll be receiving the monthly bills. It will pose a burden if the students pay for the bill themselves. Those who are completely dependent on their parents need not worry. Credit cards have their advantages and disadvantages.

Benefits can really outweigh the cost if it is used wisely. This tool should be used only in times of emergencies. Having a card can help young adults in establishing a good credit rating. A good credit rating is beneficial in the long-run. It will prepare the student to acquire loans in the future.

Credit cards can help the students through their college. Acquiring this financial tool can open their eyes and minds to the world of credit and handling finances effectively.
