You don’t want to experience that horrible phase of your life, right? Actually, debt is not totally evil per se. It’s all about self-discipline and control. But anyway, if you’re already traumatized from your previous debt problem, it’s better to take an oath like never to incur any debt at all.

That kind of life is very ideal anyway. Fewer debts can lead to financial freedom in the long run. So, you must now learn the art of keeping away from credit temptations. The number one advice I can give you is to lessen your spending. That’s actually the most basic principle on how to avoid debts.

Most people lead to debt problems because of overspending. With the popularity of credit cards, you can just credit your purchase to your account. As much as possible, never ever use your credit cards if not for emergency. It’s much advisable to use cash when buying things. In that way you will not be tempted to spend more.

And one more thing, if you’re an impulse buyer, better change your attitude now. That kind of spending behavior will only lead you to more problems in the end. Another tip on how to avoid debts is by making a budget. You must track down where you’re money is going.

And you must also make a preliminary budget or estimate of your expenditures. The budget must be made at the very beginning of the month or week. It’s really up to you whether you want a weekly or a monthly budget. It will actually serve as a guide on how much money you’re going to spend for a particular undertaking or need.

For example, when doing your grocery, you must stick with the budgeted amount. You must also make a list first of what goods to purchase so as to avoid spending much on unnecessary goods or commodities. Doing a budget is one step on how to avoid debts. You are in control of your spending and you can save a lot of money too.

Yes, when you make budget, make sure to allot a portion of your income, say 10-15% into savings. You can never tell when emergencies will arise. If that would happen, then you’ll have the money. The way on how to avoid debts is just a matter of being in control of your finances.
